Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre
Approved by District 37E as the first operational Eyeglass Recycling Centre in Canada. The centre, handles the collection of old eyeglasses, the sorting, cleaning, and placing proper prescriptions on each pair, packaging same, and distributing them to programs and needy people throughout the world. With eyeglasses coming mainly from Lions Clubs, and many other sources. Operating at the Calgary Correctional Centre, with eight lensometers “on-line”, and are responsible for producing more than 200,000 glasses annually for shipment. The Center uses all volunteer offenders and one Correction Officer to oversee the program. Lions members, Senior Citizens Club members, Church members, Optometrist and grocery stores collect these glasses for the program.
